Thank you for taking the time to visit our website. I have been a governor at the Academy since 2013 and Chair of Governors since June 2017. I am Professor Emeritus, University of Manchester, with a lifelong interest in education at all levels.
The Academy has made remarkable progress over recent years and continues to achieve excellent results: not only in terms of examinations and the performance of our students, but also in building a supportive and welcoming school community. The results of our students are a credit to their own hard work and abilities, as well as the dedication of our Headteacher, Richard Hedge, and every single one of the Academy staff. I believe that every member of the Academy community has played a critical part in the story of our success and I am very grateful to them all.
While the Governors were disappointed with the result of the recent OFSTED inspection, we believe the fundamentals at The Academy are right. We have every confidence in the Head Teacher and the dedicated staff and the actions that are already in place to build on our many strengths and take The Academy forward. We look forward to attaining at least a ‘Good’ grade at the next inspection.
Our role as governors is threefold: to decide on the most important strategic priorities for the Academy, to hold the Headteacher and senior leaders to account for making sure these priorities are achieved and to oversee the Academy finances. In spite of challenging times in education, we are all dedicated to improving the experience of all of our pupils and making sure that the Academy continues to ‘make our best better’.
