English Department Update
In English this week some of Year 7 have been working on non-fiction writing, while others are working on poetry and short stories. Year 9 are still studying Victorian texts, either A Christmas Carol or The Sign of Four.
Most of Year 8 are working towards assessments at the end of their current unit of work before moving on to their next teacher. Others are now working on a variety of different writing tasks.
Years 10 and 11 are preparing for mock exams which will happen over the next three weeks. There are lots of revision materials online and class teachers will have signposted these for their classes. All year 10 and 11 students will be doing English Language paper 1 (fiction and creative writing). Year 11 will be doing Literature paper 2 about An Inspector Calls and poetry, while Year 10 will be doing the poetry element of the Literature exam.
A new term of Enrichment has started with English teachers offering GCSE booster sessions, story-writing for adults and young children, Library Leaders, journalism, reading with primary school students and British Sign Language.
Please can we remind you that all students need to have a reading book, either from home or the library, every day in school. We read for 15 minutes at the start of every English lesson and students can win prizes for completing reading challenges.
