David Rutley MP was delighted to meet young sporting star Charlotte Dale on his recent visit to The Macclesfield Academy. Charlotte, who captains the Academy’s netball and volleyball teams, has been selected from amongst hundreds of entrants as the Sky Sports Living for Sport North West Regional Winner and will join eleven other regional winners at the national finals day at Wembley in the New Year. "Charlotte is a wonderful ambassador for a tremendous new school," said Mr Rutley whose visit also included a tour of lessons in French, ICT, Drama and Mathematics. "She is just one of many hugely impressive young people I have met here today. Sport can play such an important part in the lives of people of all ages and it is great news for the whole town that one of our youngsters has been recognised in this way." Mr Rutley, who helped in the discussions that led to the establishment of the Macclesfield Academy which opened in September, was paying his first visit to the new school. "It has been a real pleasure to see such excellent teaching in action," he said. “The use of advanced technology and the response of the students to what they were being taught were exceptional. The Macclesfield Academy is the piece that had been missing from the jigsaw of the town’s educational provision and I am delighted to have been able to see it in action for myself.”
