Welcome to our transition area! Our transition team are in touch with your primary schools. We will be in touch soon about different ‘virtual’ activities we are putting together to help yr 6 have a smooth transition as much as possible in these uncertain times.

2. Staff  Welcome Videos

Under normal circumstances you would have visited us several times for some fun activities to get to know the staff, students and the the school building here at the Macclesfield Academy.

Because you cant be here we have provided you with the next best thing – each of our departments have made a short video introducing themselves, their rooms and the types of things you will be doing in their lessons.

Creative Arts

Head of Creative Arts Mr Blaylock takes you around the department and explains what Music & Drama activities you will be doing when you start in September.

 

Design and Technology

Mrs Lucas, Head of Design and Technology shows some examples of  student work work and talks about the curriculum that the Design and Technology department cover.

 

English

You will study a whole range of  texts here using different methods as Head of English Miss Hart explains.

 

Humanities

Mrs Dooley tells you what the ‘Humanities’ are and shows you around her department.

 

IT & Computer Science

Subject leader Mr. Mugridge explains what you will be doing for IT and Computer Science lessons. There is also some good news for Minecraft fans!

 

The Learning Resource Centre (LRC)

Mrs Locke shows us around the Learning Resource Centre (library) and explains how you can use ‘homework club’.

 

Maths

Mr Laverick explains how we will support you on your maths journey at The Macclesfield Academy.

 

Modern Foreign Languages

Head of Spanish Mrs Burgess meets us in the languages corridor for a chat about what languages you will be learning here.

PE

Head of PE Miss Jerome gives us a short tour of the excellent sports facilities here at The Macclesfield Academy. She also lists the sports you can try during your PE lessons and after school.

 

Visual Arts

Mrs Underhill, subject leader for Visual Arts shows us around the art department and answers your questions.

Emotional Wellbeing Support for children in year 6 who are transferring to secondary school during Covid19.

Don’t forget we have a whole page of resources here gathered for you and your child’s wellbeing.

The Kooth online counselling and emotional wellbeing platform is available to any young person who may be struggling with their mental health during the COVID-19 outbreak.Kooth is for young people aged 11-18 and offers a variety of resources, including:

  • A live chat function that allows young people to contact a qualified counsellor
  • Chat forums with other young people
  • Crisis information
  • Self help resourcesKooth provides information and support along with treatment for children and young people with a range of mental health problems. Scheduled and drop in counselling sessions are available 365 days a year and include slots at evenings and weekends.

Cheshire East Autism Team has a page of resources for Parent and Families to support their children at home with transition.

7.  Year 5 & 6

We welcome any enquiries about joining The Macclesfield Academy family. Ordinarily, we hold several open evenings and the opportunity for a tour of the school during the day. We usually offer lots of fun and educational events to help familiarise our year 5/6’s with the Academy our staff and students.
