Drama Curriculum Intent

"To enable pupils to become independent, confident communicators and to work skillfully in a group."

The drama department is part of the school’s Creative Arts Faculty. Students are taught in mixed ability groups that reflect the reality of life beyond the school classroom. Drama is taught in our fully equipped drama studio and our students enjoy making extensive use of our fantastic lighting equipment.

Key Stage 3

All students study drama at Key Stage 3 and are given the opportunity to develop an understanding of the skills necessary for practical drama as well as developing skills that have a much wider personal, social and professional application. These include team working, social integration, evaluation, analysis, and communication and presentational skills. Students are introduced to a variety of performance skills in Year 7 and their range of theatrical techniques is developed throughout KS3. Thought-provoking and topical issues are often explored through a combination of both theme and text based activities.
