Extra-Curricular Activities
Science
Students in Years 7-10 can attend Science Club on Wednesdays 3.15 - 4 pm. During this time they will work on a Crest Award project independently or in groups. Students who are completing Duke of Edinburgh can use this for their Skill section
Extra Curricular Sport
At The Macclesfield Academy, sport is more than just physical activity - it's a way to build confidence, teamwork and resilience while having fun and staying active. With excellent facilities, passionate staff, and opportunities for all abilities, our vibrant sports program offers something for everyone, from competitive athletes to those who just want to try something new.

Football
Football is also open to girls and boys of all abilities, reflecting our commitment to inclusivity in sport. From friendly kickabouts to competitive fixtures, our football program helps students develop technical skills, fitness, and teamwork, while enjoying the world’s most popular game.
Rugby
Rugby at TMA is open to both girls and boys with opportunities for everyone to enjoy the game. It teaches strength, resilience, and respectwhile building teamwork in a safe, structured environment. Students can take part recreationally or represent the school in competitive matches.
Netball
A fast and tactical game, netball is a school favourite. Our inclusive approach means players of all abilities can take part, from beginners through to competitive squads.
Badminton & Table Tennis
These fast-paced indoor sports sharpen reflexes and coordination while providing plenty of fun. They’re popular for lunchtime clubs and inter-house competitions, as well as offering opportunities to compete more widely.
Volleyball
Dynamic and exciting, volleyball has quickly grown in popularity at The Macclesfield Academy with over 70 students attending Volleyball club. With its emphasis on communication, timing, and teamwork, every player contributes to the success of the team.
Rowing
Rowing provides a unique combination of physical endurance, teamwork, and focus. Students develop strength and determination on the water while experiencing the camaraderie that comes from working together as a crew. The TMA rowing team train every week and regularly participate in regattas
Volleyball

Trampolining
For those who love energy, challenge, and creativity, trampolining offers an exciting way to stay active. Students have the opportunity to learn jumps, twists, and routines in a safe, supportive environment. Trampolining not only boosts coordination, balance, and strength, but also encourages self-expression and focus. Many of our students go on to showcase their talents at local and regional competitions.
Summer Sports
In the summer term, our focus shifts to outdoor sports. Athletics gives students the chance to shine across track and field events, developing speed, stamina, and technique. Rounders provides a fun, inclusive team game that combines strategy and skill, and is always a highlight of the summer season. Tennis also plays a big part in summer sport at TMA, helping students improve agility, coordination, and concentration while enjoying both singles and doubles play. Cricket rounds off our summer program, giving students the chance to develop batting, bowling, and fielding skills while working together as a team in one of the world’s most cherished sports.
Pickeball, Boccia & Kurling
We pride ourselves on offering a wide variety of sports for all interests and abilities. Pickleball, a fast-growing paddle sport, is both exciting and accessible. Boccia and kurling are inclusive games that allow all students to participate, encouraging precision, focus, and friendly competition.
Rock Climbing & Outdoor Adventure Activities (OAA)
For those who love challenge and exploration, rock climbing and Outdoor Adventure Activities provide unique opportunities to test courage, teamwork, and problem-solving in inspiring settings. These activities promote resilience, independence, and a sense of adventure.
As part of our GCSE Sport offering, each week our students participate in rock climbing at Substation in Macclesfield while Teggs Nose is the chosen setting for our OAA students.
