We would like to take this opportunity to clarify Academy rules regarding uniform, equipment and appearance to ensure that there are no misunderstandings.

Second-hand Uniform

We have an excellent stock of second hand uniform in school and our Uniform Shop will now open on a regular basis - the final Friday of each month.

Donations for uniform can be made via School Gateway and funds raised will go towards additional outdoor seating and shelters for students around the school grounds. 

The Macclesfield Academy Uniform List

  • Dark blue Academy blazer.
  • Academy tie.
  • Black V-Neck Academy jumper only. No hoodies or other styles of of jumper.
  • White shirt (not blouse) worn with the top button fastened.
  • Black trousers should be plain black traditional tailored trousers.  No jeans or skinny trousers.  No studs or extra zips.  No leggings.
  • Skirt with the Academy logo (no variation of the skirt is acceptable).
  • The skirt – official Academy skirt only – worn correctly at the waist and not rolled.
  • Plain black traditional style shoes.
  • Anything that could be mistaken for a trainer or a plimsoll will not be accepted. No boots.
  • Socks – White or plain black. No higher than knee length.  Black or natural tights.  No leggings.

PE and Games Kit

The following is a list of items of kit that are expected for every PE lesson:

Girls’ PE kit 

Compulsory 

  • Navy blue polo shirt with school logo
  • Sports skirt with logo or plain black (non-cycle) shorts*
  • Trainers suitable for Sports Hall and Astro turf (not pumps)
  • Black or White socks* (Netball, summer sports and indoor activities)
  • Navy football socks* (Hockey, Football)
  • Shin pads*
  • Hair bobble to tie hair back

Recommended 

  • Showerproof jacket with school logo
  • Gum shield (Hockey and Football) *
  • Gym bag for kit*

Optional 

  • School blue leggings with logo
  • 1/4 Zip Training top with school logo
  • Navy-blue tracksuit bottoms with logo
  • Plain blue or black base layer under PE kit if necessary*
Boys PE Kit 

Compulsory 

  • Navy blue polo shirt with school logo
  • Navy blue shorts with school logo
  • Trainers suitable for Sports Hall and Astro turf* (not pumps)

Students will be issued a D1 afterschool detention if they are not ‘Ready to Learn’ by missing an item or their PE kit. 3 times will equal a D2 afterschool detention.

If a student is unable to participate in the lesson for medical reasons, then they must have a signed letter from home stating the reason for this. The student will still be required to bring their PE kit as they will take on a different role in the lesson.

Personal Appearance

  • The rule regarding hair styles or colours is that they are not unusual. There should be no hair dye or coloured stripes or highlights unless they would not be noticed (for example a light brown colour would not be noticed but a purple one would.)
  • Similarly, a short hair cut would not be noticed but a shaved head or shaved stripes would.
  • Make-up – light foundation only permitted. No lipstick or mascara.
  • Jewellery – plain stud earring only – maximum of one per ear. No rings. No bracelets of any type.
  • Facial / tongue piercings are forbidden.
  • False eyelashes and nails must not be worn.

Equipment - Compulsory Item

  • Bag – big enough to carry large text books and / or A4 file
  • Pencil case with at least 2 pens and a purple pen, a ruler and a pencil
  • Reading book
  • Homework folder
  • Uniform 
  • From Year 7 – a scientific calculator. We recommend a Casio FX-83GTX or Casio FX-85GTX  calculator and a standard maths set containing a protractor and a compass
