14th Dec 2023

On Wednesday 13th December, students from our 2023 Year 11 cohort were warmly welcomed back to The Macclesfield Academy for a celebration of their achievements and academic success as students of our school.

As ex-students and their families filed through the front doors, smiles and chatter filled the room and a wonderful platter of small cakes, canapés and refreshments were laid out for all to enjoy. The evening was kicked off with a talk from Mr Galvin, who reflected on the Class of 23's journey to Year 11, quoting Pericles:

What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.

Students were then called up to receive their GCSE Certificates, followed by Special Recognition and Outstanding Achievement awards, which were presented to those who had been nominated by staff for putting learning above all and their strive for academic excellence.

Finally, the celebration event came to a close as Mr Galvin highlighted the importance of Student Leadership and congratulated Head Boy, Freddie, and Head Girl, Grace, for taking on their additional responsibilities so admirably. Awards were also presented for those who had achieved the highest GCSE results, namely Anya and Joe, as well as Tom Abby, who had made the best GCSE progress through hard work and perseverance.

The final award, this being The Headteacher's Award, was presented to Sophie, whose positive attitude, constant smile and fearlessness in throwing herself into school life impressed all staff at The Macclesfield Academy.

Overall, a fantastic evening to celebrate the Class of 2023 - congratulations to all!
