Curriculum Intent

“ RRS, as part of the PSHE education curriculum, is vital to the development of the young people in our school

The planned programmes are designed to help them deal with the difficult moral, social and health-related issues that arise in their lives and in society.”

At the Macclesfield Academy, our Personal Development curriculum prepares students for life beyond school by developing character, confidence, responsibility, and respect. It promotes wellbeing, resilience, British values, social awareness, and life skills, ensuring students grow into healthy, informed, and active citizens. We believe that the Personal Development programme is a programme of PRIDE: Purposeful, Recognised, Inclusive, it Develops character and is Empowering.

We believe that by helping and empowering our students to grow in these ways equips them not just to succeed academically, but to thrive personally and socially. It ensures they have the confidence to face challenges, the empathy to engage with others, the values to contribute positively to society, and the resilience to navigate life’s ups and downs. As citizens they can then make informed decisions throughout their life and grow up to be strong and confident individuals that can contribute to our society and embed our British Values.

The Curriculum follows the guidance form the PSHE association and covers the three core subjects of Health and Well-being, Relationships, and Living in the wider world. The curriculum also covers British Values and a careers programme that aligns with the Unifrog platform that all students have access to.
