On Monday 16th January 2023, The Macclesfield Academy alumni filed through our doors once again to celebrate their GCSE success as the 'Class of 2022'.

The evening began with a wonderful selection of drinks, canapes and cupcakes, thoughtfully prepared and set up by our catering team. Greeted by the gentle melody of former student, Luca A, playing the piano, smiles adorned the room and chatter of time gone by buzzed through the walls as old friends were reunited.

The awards presentation itself was kicked off by Mr Galvin, who welcomed all and reflected on the outstanding achievements of last year's "flagship year group", who delivered The Macclesfield Academy's best GCSE results in recent history. Mr Galvin expressed his pride in the former students for "capturing the spirit of our school" and encouraged them to reflect on their experiences, before sharing the positive changes that have taken place since they moved on.

Following the opening speech, it was an honour to welcome actor, businesswoman and former student of The Macclesfield Academy, Kaitlyn Akinpelumi, as our guest speaker. Kaitlyn delivered an inspirational speech to our 2022 alumnus, as she shared her journey from joining The Macclesfield Academy at the age of 13, through to completing a Degree in Business Management at university and most recently, her success in securing roles in the latest Netflix hit 'The School for Good and Evil' and upcoming film 'The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes'. The running theme throughout Kaitlyn's speech was a message of hard work and sacrifice, in which former students were reminded that

"it is important to do what you love"

and urged to

"never limit yourself to other people's expectations of you".

The evening was a fantastic celebration of the hard work, dedication and well deserved results of students who have now moved on to the next phase of their education journey. Special recognition awards were distributed to those who had been identified by teaching staff for their exceptional attitude to learning and resilience to keep going. There was an air of camaraderie as peers and families cheered and applauded winners of special awards, including Sportsperson of the Year, which went to Holly H, The Jim Shield's Art Award for Caitlin B and the Headteacher's Award, proudly given to Brandon S.

Staff at The Macclesfield Academy were, and continue to be, immensely proud of the 'Class of 2022', who displayed a commitment to 'Learning above all'. From their time in Secondary education, last year's students have followed various paths including taking Level 3 Media at Buxton College, Level 2 Electrical Engineering at Macclesfield College and A level English Language, Sociology and Religions, Philosophy and Ethics at Fallibroome Sixth Form.

We wish all of our previous students the best of luck as they continue to follow their passions and look forward to seeing where their journeys take them!
