Well done to Ella, Scarlett, Chloe, Isla, Lily, Harriet, Isla, Syon, Nathan, Seth, Arnita, Jayden and Ellin who all participated in the TMA debate yesterday regarding Adlington New Town.  In front of visiting judges and an audience of Year 8, the students eloquently tackled a complex issue which is at the forefront of many people's minds in the local area.

In September 2025, Adlington was identified by the Government’s New Towns Taskforce as one of 12 potential locations for a new town. The proposal, put forward by a private property developer, Belport Adlington Ltd, would see the construction of up to 20,000 homes and associated commercial development across nearly 1,000 hectares of Green Belt land and productive farmland in rural Cheshire. This scale of development would fundamentally alter the landscape between Poynton, Bollington and Macclesfield.

All of the students were volunteers and put time and effort into writing and rehearsing their House Team presentations looking at both sides of the debate.

Mr Dethick, who runs the debating society said "It was so impressive to witness these students present both sides of this complex issue in such an articulate, informed and confident manner.  The skills which they are developing in this forum will undoubtedly be of great value to them in the coming years - enriching and promoting their futures for the rest of their lives.  I couldn't be more proud of them."
