Rafts, Ropes and Resilience: Year 7 Take on Anglesey
Back
On Friday afternoon our Year 7s returned from an exhilarating three-day residential trip to the Conway Centre in Anglesey, marking a major milestone in their first year of secondary school. Under perfect, sunny skies, the students traded their classrooms for the stunning North Wales coastline to take part in a series of high-energy land and water activities.
The bespoke programme allowed each student to challenge themselves with a tailored schedule consisting of one water-based activity and two land-based adventures. Choosing from a diverse range of options—including including rock climbing, bushcraft, canoeing, high ropes, mountain biking, raft building and kayaking - the students demonstrated remarkable courage and enthusiasm. Whether they were navigating the waters of the Menai Strait or scaling the centre’s climbing walls, the Year 7s proved themselves to be a truly adventurous cohort.
The excitement didn’t end when the sun went down. Evenings were filled with spirited games of bingo and strategic orienteering challenges around the centre’s grounds, further strengthening the bonds between the new year group.
Miss James, Head of Year 7, said: "This residential has been an absolute triumph. It was the first time a Year 7 group has been away on a trip like this, and they rose to every challenge with such a positive and enthusiastic attitude. Seeing them build resilience on the high ropes and work together during raft building was a proud moment for all the staff."
This trip marks the successful return of the Year 7 residential programme, providing students with essential life skills and memories that will last a lifetime. Due to the overwhelming success of the visit, TMA has already confirmed its intent to make the Conway Centre a permanent fixture in the Year 7 calendar.
