Protecting Hearts at TMA
Back
Today TMA is incredibly proud to host Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) for a vital screening day. 100 of our Year 10 and Year 11 students, as well as some of our younger members of staff, are being screened for undiagnosed heart conditions, helping to identify hidden risks before they become a danger.
TMA is the final school in the area to host this life-saving initiative. We were also delighted to welcome the Mayor of Cheshire East, Councillor David Edwardes, and the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Judy Snowball, who visited today to show their support for this important community effort.
Every week in the UK, at least 12 young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions and early detection through a simple, painless ECG can save lives. While the screening is free for our students, it costs £70 per person to provide. This has been fully funded by the Mia Jennings Memorial Fund through To Macclesfield Love Mia.
Headteacher Mr Galvin said: "This day is made possible thanks to the tireless fundraising of Mia's family and friends. Mia was a local student and beloved swim teacher whose legacy continues to protect young people across Macclesfield."
"A huge thank you to CRY, the Mia Jennings Memorial Fund and everyone who has donated to make today possible. You are helping us keep our students safe."
