The Macclesfield Academy's Year 7 girl's football team are a force to be reckoned with and today, Thursday 18th May 2023,  they competed in the District Cup Final against Tytherington High School!

Hosted at the home ground of Macclesfield Football Club, the team arrived for the final game of the season with a buzz of excitement. Playing a match of 30 minutes each way, our young players worked brilliantly as a team and demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship and resilience against a strong opposing team.

The girls retained composure throughout the game and drove the ball forward, with a great goal being scored by Maddi. Our solid defensive unit intercepted and deflected various attempts at goal from attacking Tytherington players, while a chorus of cheers and encouragement could be heard from the sidelines as substitute players were rolled on and off and parents watched on.

At the final whistle, the game finished on a 6-1 win for Tytherington High School. Gracious as ever, our Year 7 players shook hands, applauded and rallied around each other as they reflected on their fantastic achievement of being one of the two teams to reach the District Cup Final.

Each team chose a player of the match, with Tytherington selecting Ella for her dedicated performance and unwavering effort as she ran down every ball and made countless shots at goal.

Closing with an short ceremony and giving of awards, the year 7 team proudly left the grounds of Macclesfield Football Club with runner-up medals and a hunger to win next season.

Well done girls!
